It’s common in Venezuela that moms cook their own baby food at home, so when I became a mom it was natural for me to prepare it for my babies. I tried to make them in big batches to freeze it and use it when I was short of time. Although my kids are not babies anymore, they still like apple sauce. I think it’s a delicious and healthy snack even for me.
This recipe is very easy to make, and can be easily adapted to any other fruit of your preference.
– Cut each apple in eight chunks, like this: cut in half, core, cut each piece in two and then cut again.
– Put water and apple in a pot, sprinkle powdered cinnamon and cover.
– Cook over low heat until the apples are soft (approx. 20 min.)
– Blend and enjoy.
Some benefits of apples: hydrate, for their high contents of water; they are diuretic; apples are loaded with potassium so they lower blood pressure; the soluble fibre found in apples beats constipation and binds with fats in the intestine, which translates into lower cholesterol levels; help fight diabetes; curb all sorts of cancers, especially colon cancer; prevent heart disease, asthma and other inflammatory conditions like arthritis.
